After two hours at the biggest local yarn store, all I can say is, "Thank goodness for Dalegarn!"
What a time of it to find a pattern. All of the newer books I looked at offered patterns that were simply to plain looking and dull to knit. Isn't anyone publishing patterns with a bit of a challenge to them? They had a promising stack of vintage patterns in the corner but then the second challenge presented itself: the dearth of 0 to 3 months sized patterns. The older books offered some. My mother laments the demise of the lacey baby sets for bringing baby home from the hospital. Folks just don't do that anymore. And today, I saw it in print.
But fortunately, I found some books form a Norwegian company, Dale of Norway, that had patterns for newborns and patterns that were interesting/pretty/patterned. The one pictured will be the one I will try first. This will be my concession to my Mum's love of homecoming sets. It's not especialy lacey but it has some detail to it. I think it will be fun to try. And if Dalegarn's pattern pans out to be all it promises, I'll probably try another. Stay tuned.
